Crimson Fists - Captain Cortez - Construction

Greetings

So today I recieved some of the many bitz (and 15 devastators) i have ordered from around the interwebs. For a while I've been thinking about trying my hand with converting my own Capt. Cortez figure, as many of you might know Games Workshop did actually have a figure of him a couple of editions ago, and well...lets be honest it wasn't exactly the prettiest they'd ever done.

I do know that Cortez is sort of "dead" according to the fluff, but that didn't stop me from wanting him, cause he does sound pretty badass!

Well anyway as I said I got some bitz home today, and I decided to take a small break from my real work, and start figuring out how I wanted him to look.

Conversion
I wanted to keep it pretty close to the original Cortez, the powerfist, boltgun, loin cloth etc. but I also wanted him to be abit more dynamic and have a more exciting pose. which also gave me an excuse to practice some more green stuff sculpting on the arm socket and loin cloth.

As you might notice fairly quickly when comparing to the old Cortez figure, is that I decided to go with a helmet on mine, why ? you might ask, well let me tell you why, I just never liked bare head space marines and since it's my take on Cortez I'll do whatever the hell I want :-D

I still need to get some shoulder plates, backpack and perhaps an etched bracc Crimson/imperial fists sheet, for the chest iconography etc. which I'm not sure I got the green stuff skill for making myself, but we'll see.

Anyways here's some progress pictures.

So I decided to try my luck with more green stuff, and even though I managed to destroy the chest fist...twice... it still ended up pretty nice I think.

Not quite sure I'm going to keep the gs fist on his Powerfist, think it's going to look to crowded when the shoulder pads come on.

Can't wait to get the last bitz!

Update!

So the last few bitz are finally here! and I think my Cortez figure is pretty much finished and just need painting now, but since I'm working on a few other things at the moment he will go into the painting queue.

Pictures!

Not quite sure if I want to give him a banner (since the old figure didn't have that) but then again it does look pretty nice :-D

Comments more than welcome!

Cheers

Crimson Fists - Standard Bearer

Hell everyone

As you might have seen I've been painting a standard bearer for my Crimson Fists army (and if you haven't it's right here), but now the time has come for the banner.

Today I've been giving it my first ever try at sculpting something with green stuff, and considering that I think it could have turned out ALOT worse, actually I'm quite proud of myself :)
I don't know if I should try to add more to it, maybe some laurels or something around the fist, but this is a big maybe. But for now I'll let this cure totally and then we'll see.

Finished!

Let me just start by saying this banner didn't quite turn out as I had pictured in my head, but this being my first time ever working with Green Stuff I can't really complain to much about the outcome. Of course I would have prefered the fist to be abit better sculpted, but next time I will surely be able to do better!

Anyway! Pictures!

Conclusion
A beer can (or any can for that matter) is a brilliant method to make a cheap banner that still looks quite nice, of course you could also use paper, but I don't know how easy it would be to add some nice natural wrinkles in that without ending up with very sharp edges.

With abit more sculpting practice I think you'll definitely be able to make some very nice looking banners like this.

I hope you liked it, as always comments are more than welcome.

Cheers

Crimson Fists - Chapter Master Finished

Evening everyone

So i've been quite productive today, and managed to finish 2 figures :-p

Here we have my Chapter Master Pedro Kantor finished, or atleast I don't think I can think of anything else to paint on him at the moment, but might return to him at some point in the future if I come up with something or get some awesome suggestions of change, but lets see :-)

Enjoy!

Sincerly hope you like it.

Cheers

Chris

Crimson Fists - Sergeant Conversion, Standard Bearer

Hello everyone

So while waiting for some paint on my Kantor banner to dry, I went through my box of bits and unpainted marines, and I found an old AOBR sergeant (which I have already painted one of) and I thought I would try to convert him, so I could use him for a future Space Marine Squad (I don't like the idea of having identical sergeants, don't mind the standard marines being the same though). So I went at it with a scalpel and here is the result.

And here we have a comparison between the new guy and my already painted sergeant, you can see the resemblance quite easy, but as long as they are not the exact same I'm happy :-D

Standard Bearer

While painting Kantor I also slowly began work on my first standard bearer, hopefully I will get hit Power Armour finished while painting Kantor's Banner, but the thing I'm looking forward to the most, is making and painting the banner (anyone got some tips?)

Anyway here's a quick picture.

In a moment of inspiration I gave it a go on making the rough shape of the banner out of an old beer can, since its now made of a very flexible metal, I thought it might be possible to add some wrinkles and such to eat, easier than it would have been on a paper banner. But we'll see :-)

So yesterday, before I got serverly drunk, I tried to add some wrinkles to my home made beer can banner, and to be honest, I think I succeded fairly well. It covered in liquid green stuff and a couple of coats of pva glue, to get a better base for painting, as I would imagine painting directly onto a beer can might not yield the best results.

I also started painting his face.

So putting the banner away for a moment, I started painting the figure itself (while at the same time painting Kantor's banner). Still got to finish the details, but overall he is coming along nicely.

Finished:
So I managed to finish up my standard bearer today (still need the banner), and I'm quite happy with how he turned out :-)

Well you be the judge.

So the figure is finished, and you can see the banner progress right here.
