Sons of Horus - MKV Tactical Squad - Games Workshop

Hello everyone

If you have been following along on Instagram, you'll probably have noticed I'm currently painting a lot of new Tactical Marines and other stuff from the Age of Darkness Starter Set. In total, I'm currently painting 30 Tactical Marines, 5 Recon Marines (Finished), a Contemptor Dreadnought and a Centurion.

The Recon Squad is already finished, and now I only have to do another 20 Tactical Marines. My deadline is currently the end of October as I would like to have at least 20 of the Tacticals finished and ready for an event I'm going to.

You might notice these are not actually the MKVI marines from the box set, and you'd be absolutely right. I only used the legs, arms, 1 right shoulder pad, weapons and the Vexilla. All the remaining parts are either FW reason, GW plastic or 3d Prints (the majority).  I wanted to make them into a makeshift MKV unit, and I think I did alright.

They are painting just like I've described in my old painting guide. I've just changed the highlight placement and done a lot more highlighting with the brush. I've gotten a little bored with just doing edge highlights, so have to challenge myself ever so slightly.

Even though I hate batch painting with a fiery passion, I'm still happy with how these turned out, and I've already started working on the next batch of 10 (and the Centurion). If you want to follow along, hop over on Instagram as I update regularly.

Until next time

  1. Hey there , love the models. I really like the purple eye lenses, what paints did you use to achieve them? It's really unique and striking.

    1. Thanks mate

Its primarily Citadel Screamer pink highlighted a couple of time by adding Ivory or ice yellow to the pink 👌

    1. Just the Forgeworld one, only difference is I spent more time doing the final highlights with brush. So not just an edge highlight on these.
